SHAYKA SHAHID JOYEE (CEB150702)

Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya

21 May, 2016, Saturday.

As I couldn't attend the closing program of SBJK with my group, group 2 because of my illness, I had to join group 4 with their project to complete my hours. Group 4's project is to teach the children of the hospital staffs in Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM). I joined them and helped them in their activity as well as I completed my remaining hours.

After going to the hospital, Miss Sapiah who is the in charge of our teaching session briefed me everything regarding how to teach the children, how to prepare notes for them, how to give them tasks and how to complete the task as well. Miss Sapiah was very kind and gentle with me. So, as the first time experience as a teacher, I felt very overwhelmed. Miss Sapiah understood my situation and guided me according to her way. When she was guiding me, I learnt a lot of things that a teacher should handle. A teacher must be punctual, should make the students understand the topic, should take care of the students and so on. I followed her instructions and managed to teach and handle the students which was a big achievement for me.

With Miss Sepiah and the keader of group 4
I was assigned to teach Science to Form 1-3. As I have knowledge about science, I took this subject for teaching the students. I had 3 students to teach the subject. Though the students were very less, but it was not easy to teach them and make them understand the topic. So, I tried my level best to teach them the given topic and make them understand. The students were quite cooperative because I was teaching in English. I thought they would feel uncomfortable but I was wrong. They understood every single thing that I was trying to deliver to them and helped me to complete the teaching procedure. Even the students taught be Bahasa Malaya after finishing the class. It was fun learning a new language with my students.

The other members were also teaching other subjects like Maths, Science to other students. I was observing their teaching styles. How they teach, how they handle the students and so on. I was applying their method of teaching sometimes for a change and the students enjoyed that very much. As some of the members had experiences of teaching before, I observed them and learnt some new techniques to teach the children and those techniques helped me to teach them as I wanted.

When I was teaching the students, I kept in mind that I should give my very best to make them understand the topic. The students were also very cooperative. I made them understand the whole topic and they were very satisfied with that. I also gave them a task to do and they successfully did the task. I was feeling relieved as I made sure that the students are comfortable with English and they understood the whole topic that I teach them today.

While I was teaching the students, I realized that a teacher has to work hard for their students. A student's job is to understand the topic and learn it. But a teacher has lot more to do. He has to make the topic understand to all of his students. if any student is weak, he has to take special care. For that, he might take extra classes for that particular student. Also, if a teacher teaches something to the students, he should have full knowledge about that topic. Then only he is able to teach. A teacher has to be punctual and caring towards his students as well.  he should be well-mannered and should be fluent in English as well. After teaching the students, I realized the work load of a teacher and achieved my goal to teach the children. maybe I have not gained all the qualities a teacher has, but at least I came to know about all the things that a teacher has to tackle with. It was very exciting for me as well as I felt accomplished.

The day came to an end. I thanked the students and Miss Sapiah as well as the members of group 4 to help me complete my remaining hours as well as for helping me to gain such experience. I also thanked Dr. Anna, the supervisor of group 4 for guiding me and helping by taking me into their group for completing my hours.
